Golf Muscles - Timing - Golf Mechanics: The Key To A Powerful Golf Swing

Golf swing power is truly sought after by many golfers short and tall. A powerful golf swing can be easily accomplished if you're standing 6ft tall over the golf ball. Knowing the right mechanics of the golf swing, along with the right timing is essential. If you take two golfers of the same height, the exact same swing, same golf club and ball, the results in distance would probably be the same. If you take the same scenario and one golfer is approximately 6ft. tall, and the other approximately 5ft. tall, the advantage would be to the taller person. You're probably saying, no kidding Sherlock. A taller person creates a longer and bigger swing span, which in turn generates more club head speed. Unleashing a huge drive can be monstrous if all golf mechanics and timing are in sync for a fairly tall person. So how does a shorter golfer stand to compete?

The answer would probably lie in the golf muscles of a shorter golfer. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to go out and bench press 400 lbs everyday. By exercising your upper and lower golf muscles two or three times a week, you can make a world of difference. The golf muscles that need to be exercised would be the legs, thighs, and whole upper portion of the body. The upper portions of the body are the main coil of the golf swing, with the arms and wrist getting the most exercise. As these same muscles are used most to guide and control the weight of the golf club through the motion of the golf swing. The lower portion of the body is strengthened to reinforce the upper portion of the golf swing. There are many books and videos on the Internet that address these exercises.

Golfers that prefer to exercise outdoors and are not sure of the appropriate exercises to use should take the exercise out on the practice range hitting golf balls. By hitting golf balls at the practice range, you will be exercising the important golf muscles naturally, and greatly improve your golf swing at the same time. Have you heard of golf muscle memory? It is a part of the brain that remembers a movement. Putting it another way, have you felt a muscle say, stop right there? This same part of the brain will tell moving parts of your body how far you can take it, so you do not injure yourself. It also signals for the timing of certain muscles to kick in and take over, if your latter part of the brain were paying attention. It would also remember good habits and bad habits in the golf swing. One must be careful in their practice routine on avoiding the bad habits. Practicing regularly will exercise these certain muscles and train them for further swing improvement in proper moves and timing. Your golf muscles will take the golf mechanics and timing to a higher level of power by exercising them over and over again.

With regular exercise and practicing the golf mechanics and timing of the golf swing, both short and tall players can compete on the same level. To out distance your taller competitors, it would help to pack a few extra pounds of golf muscle behind your golf swing. The same would apply for the taller golfer to stay ahead of the crowd.

Tournaments, Championships, Golf Courses, Clubs - The Sport Of Golf

Thanks to the star power of Tiger Woods, golf has become one of the commercially successful sports worldwide. Now, golf is enjoying and basking in its popularity with several major and minor tournaments happening every year.

Major tourneys include the Masters, the US Open, the British Open, and the PGA Championship. Those four are the majority of the major tournaments making up what is known in the golf world as the grand slam of golf for men. For women, the grand slam tournaments are the LPGA Championship, the US Women's Open, the du Maurier Classic and the Dinah Shore.

But what is golf really about? Besides the ruckus created by swinging on the grass and looking out for a possible birdie, much of the dynamics of the sport is a blur. So let's get to know golf, it will entice you to buy some golf clubs the next time you happen to pass by a sports store.

Golf is an outdoor sports where the player's objective is to propel a small ball over a field or a golf course and shoot it towards a hole at the end of each course. The key to the game is to place the ball inside the hole using as few strokes as possible. A golf course is often made up of 18 sections with holes. Standard courses have about 6500 to 7000 yard length. Each sections or holes may differ in length.

History

The game dates back to the 14th or 15th century in Scotland, where it became really popular but it was not until the 18th century that people started to get enthusiastic about it, forming golf associations including the St. Andrews Society of Golfers. The first golf club was created in 1603 by a Scotsman named William Mayne, who was assigned to the court of James I to make golf clubs for the Royal's enjoyment. The idea of a golf club was later improved upon when Andrew Dickson and Henry Mill, developed clubs made of carved wooden heads. The club face had leather horn or bone. Years later, golf clubs made of iron were introduced.

The creation of golf balls was credited to James Melville who was commissioned by James I to make leather golf balls stuffed with feathers. In 1848. Reverend Adam Paterson experimented with gutta-percha, a substance in India that he softened with heat and molded into a smooth hard ball. Noticing that though the hard ball was good to play with, one must intentionally put nicks and scratches on the surface for better play. This paved the way for the new generation golf ball with little crevices on it. Popularity of golf reached the United States and in Britain in the 1920s.

How to start

A golf player starts the game with a tee towards the fairway, a carefully tended strip of land with rough areas of long grass, bushes and trees on the sides. To make the game more challenging, golf courses often have artificial hazards like sand-filled bunkers and water hazards where the ball can easily get into. At the end of the fairway, the player will see the putting green, a smooth area that surrounds the cup where the hole is located. This is where players often do their putting, being really close to the hole.

Golf strokes and clubs

There are two kinds of golf strokes, the drive and the approach shot. The drive is done from the tee and is actually a long shot. Different golf clubs are used for different shots depending on the distance the player wants the golf ball to reach. A standard set has 14 golf clubs in different types. There are woods, irons and the wedge, which is often of two kinds, the sand wedge and the pitching wedge.

Whatever your experience with this game, it is also a great sport to be out enjoying nature.

How Good Are You In The Sand?

Think about it, if you could convert 5 out of 10 attempts from a normal lie in the trap, how many strokes could YOU save per round?

If you're like most people, you could save yourself at least 3-4 strokes per 18 holes.

I consider myself a decent player and having said that, I played recently at Pilot Knob Park in the foothills of the North Carolina Mountains. I found myself in green side bunkers 4 times during my round. Let's just say my iron play was a bit less than stellar. I got the ball up and in 4 times out of 4 and I'm going to explain to you right now exactly how I did it and how you can do it too.

It is my belief that every golfer, regardless of skill level, physical condition, gender, or age, is capable of playing good bunker shots and converting the up and in at least 50% of the time. The following tips will set you on a solid foundation that you can practice and achieve these results.

1. Practice your putting.
I know this is a sand play article but if you practice holing putts 10 feet and shorter for 30 minutes a week, sand saves as well as all other shots become a little less daunting. If you feel good about holing a 10 footer, it takes a lot heat off the rest of your game so just humor me and work on your putting 30 minutes weekly. My saving putts at Pilot Knob Park were 3 feet to 8 feet and I made all four.

2. Use a neutral grip.
You don't want to use a strong grip for bunker shots because it's absolutely essential that the club face slides under the ball and into your finish without the club face closing. A neutral grip is one that has the back of the left hand facing parallel to the target line and the right palm facing the same direction. Slap your hands together in front of you and you'll instantly see what I mean.

3. Aim the club face down the target line which should be just left of the hole.
You've heard all the hype about opening the club face and such and that's fine if you hit a lot of bunker shots but most folks don't so aim the club face down the target line which should be just left of the hole. The target should be just left of the hole because the method I use will impart some left to right spin which will move the ball from left to right once it gets on the ground.

4. Aim your feet on a 20-30 degree angle to the left of the target line.
The greater the angle you create between your feet and the target line, the higher and softer the ball will come out of the trap. Practice these shots a bit with varying angles and you'll see what I mean. Find the angle where you're most comfortable and which produces the best results and stick with it whatever it might be.

5. Anchor your feet in the sand to enhance your balance and stability.

6. Swing the club out to in across the target line parallel to the line that your feet are on and keep the face of the club square to the target line.
The club should enter the sand 1 - 2 inches behind the golf ball and slice under it' into a nice full finish. This will produce a shot that comes out of the bunker and lands softly on the green. Your arms and forearms should remain relaxed throughout the swing. This will produce wrist action and speed through the ball which will produce a shot that spins and stops quickly under normal circumstances.

7. PRACTICE
It's very important for the average player to take as many variables out of play as possible. Thus the need for a neutral grip, and constant set up position. Practice and play with these points in mind and I guarantee you that your bunker play will improve

Enjoy Your Golf!

Surely You Jest - Discount Golf In A Desert?

At the end of the day, when all the lights are turned off, it is still just a desert. Go five miles or less outside of the Las Vegas city limits and you will see ample evidence of this fact. So, how do they get a golf club in the desert? Feed it tons of water and charge the moon for a single round of golf, that's how! Is there even such a thing as discount golf prices in a desert?

Now, Las Vegas is not a cheap place to visit anyway - those slot machines and craps tables have a way of calling you in your sleep. Add a modest night of gambling to a couple rounds of golf, and you may have to promise your firstborn to some shady character standing outside the casino. But there is always a way to find discount golf - Las Vegas style!

What exactly do you mean discount golf Las Vegas style"?

Look, there is one thing that attracts millions of visitors to a city out in the middle of the desert every year, and it sure isn't the scenery. Las Vegas is what it is because of legalized gambling, and the entire town is devoted to seeing adults have some fun. So, you want to get some discount golf Las Vegas style? Then go with a package deal, where you stay in a hotel that offers golf as well. Several hotels, including the Sands, offer discount golf as a way of enticing visitors to stay - and let's not forget GAMBLE - in their casinos. And let's be honest - you know that you are going to lose money gambling anyway, so why not take advantage of some discount golf - Las Vegas style - while visiting?

But what if I am staying at a hotel that doesn't have a golf course?

Well, there are a lot of package deals that include discount golf at offsite locations. Basically, the hotel gets a price break for driving business to the golf courses, and the hotels can offer discount golf as a perk for staying at their hotel. While packages vary from hotel to hotel and by the time of year, you generally get a better discount golf rate the longer you stay. Plus, by booking in advance, you can also enjoy some discount golf at even lower prices.

So I am not the sharpest tool in the shed...I don't have a package deal and I never book early....what then?

Well, it could be ugly trying to find some discount golf in a desert, when you are not staying at a hotel with major gaming activities and package deals with area golf clubs. I'm not saying it's impossible to play some discount golf, but you better get that loan pre-approved so you at least have bus fare home after enjoying a few rounds on the links. About the best hope you have is to visit the city during off-peak times, or plan on playing well into the evening, if you want to get some discount golf rates. As with most clubs, weekday rates are lower than those charged on the weekends. So you have an idea as to the price, you can land a round of discount golf in Las Vegas for around $100. Sadly, however, poor planning will cost you, because you can stay at some hotels for that same amount PLUS get a round of golf in! So, if you want some discount golf when visiting Las Vegas, book early and get in on package deals. Otherwise, well...better bring the plastic.

Improves Your Golf Back Swing

Problems with your back swing? Let’s look at your flexibility, hips and shoulders.

Are you like many golfers that are trying to improve their golf backswing but only end up frustrated?

It could be a simple as using the incorrect approach.

First get a golf fitness evaluation to see exactly what your physical strength and flexibility limitations are. Use this information as a keystone to what you need to focus on for improving your back swing.

The main restrictions that many golfers face are lack of shoulder rotation. As the body ages, lose may occur in the shoulder range restricting upper body rotation, limiting the ability for a complete backswing and follow through. A core golf fitness workout program provides a power golf swing. Golf stretching shoulder exercises allow more flexibility in your back swing.

Another challenge is the core flexibility limitation. When the core tightens it drastically limits your ability to make a back swing in full control. Increasing the effort often only ends up creating more tension and less shoulder turn.

Trying this simple golf stretch improves your golf back swing.Lie down on a mat and extend your legs in front of you.Raise one leg and bend at knee trying for 90 degree angle from knee and hip.Crossing that leg over extended leg, keep your opposite shoulder on the mat Feel slight pull in lower back and buttock.Hold for 30 seconds and repeat on opposite side.

I found doing this simple flexibility exercise on a daily basis releases tension and pain in my lower back which ultimately improves my complete back swing. Now, skipping these exercises for a week not only did I notice problems in my back swing but my back pain returned. As all golfers know, you can’t make a proper golf swing with tension or aching back.

Do this exercise on a daily basis and see how it improves your golf back swing.

This is just one exercise, there are so many more.
